APPROPRIATE DRESS FOR AN INTERVIEW:
- Professional business attire: Conservative-style suit (navy, brown, black or gray).
- Freshly pressed shirt or blouse. Conservative tie for men. Neat shoes (clean and polished).
- Use cologne sparingly or not at all. Minimize jewelry; it can be distracting to the interviewer.
GENERAL INTERVIEW INFORMATION
- You only have one chance to make a good first impression!
- Arrive at the interview 10 minutes early. Allow plenty of time to get there.
- Show confidence, but don’t be overly confident.
- Always extend your hand to shake theirs when meeting them and when leaving the interview. Give a nice firm handshake.
- Take several copies of your resume with you. Resumes should be crisp and clean.
- Be prepared to fill out an application. Take reference information with you.
- Take a leather/vinyl notebook with a quality pen, so that you can take notes.
- Be enthusiastic and emphasize your strengths.
- Do not make negative comments with regard to previous employers or managers.
QUESTIONS THAT YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO ASK:
- Research the company. Know what products and/or services the company offers. Know when the company was founded, and how it has grown
- Ask questions about the company and the position. Take 6 – 10 prepared questions.
NEVER DISCUSS SALARY
- Never ask the company about salary or benefits unless they bring it up first! The company wants to know what you have to offer them. Benefits/Salary are usually brought up at a 2nd or 3rd interview depending on the companies interview process.
